5 Simple Steps to Getting Paid by Adsense

The contents in this page was adapted from Google's Adsense help. I have reached step 4 of this process. I have not achieve $100 in earnings yet so I have not received any of my adsense earnings.

You must complete all the steps below to get your account set for your first AdSense payment. Keep in mind that you will need to earn $10 before you can provide your tax details, select a form of payment, and enter your PIN or phone verification number.

1. Check your address. Since payments and PINs, which we'll describe below, are sent to the mailing address in your account, it's important to confirm the accuracy of your payment address and payee name. Keep in mind, especially, that checks and Western Union payments are made out to the payee name exactly as entered in your account.

If you need to correct any information, follow the instructions in our Help Center.

2. Provide your tax information

We're required to collect tax-related information from all AdSense publishers, including publishers who are based outside of the U.S. , and we're unable to send payment to you until your information has been submitted.

You can submit your tax information within your account by clicking the Tax Information link from the My Account tab. An easy-to-use wizard interface will help guide you to the appropriate online forms. You're able to submit most forms online, and we'll give you instructions on submitting any other forms that may be required.

3. Select your form of payment

Depending on your payment address, there may be a number of payment options available to you, including checks, Electronic Funds Transfer, and Western Union Quick Cash. We suggest you review the available forms of payment to learn about each option. Once you've decided how you'd like to be paid, click the Payment Information [edit] link from the My Account tab of your AdSense account. Follow the instructions on that page to select your form of payment.

4. Enter your PIN and phone verification number

When you've earned $10 in earnings, we'll mail a Personal Identification Number to the payment address in your account. You'll need to enter this PIN into your account before we can send any payments to you. Your PIN will be sent by standard post and will take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Depending on your location, you may also be asked to verify your phone number. As part of this process, our system will call you at a pre-arranged time, and you'll be required to dial in a verification number that appears in your AdSense account.

5. Generate $100 in earnings

When your total unpaid earnings reach $100, we'll send you a payment at the end of the next month. For example, if your total unpaid earnings reached $100 during January and you completed the 4 steps above, we would send you a payment at the end of February.

If your total unpaid earnings haven't yet reached $100, they'll roll over to the next month and accrue until they meet the $100 threshold.

Adsense Ad Placements

This Article was adapted from Google's Adsense Help.

Certain locations tend to be more successful than others. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.While this heat map is useful as a positioning guideline, it is strongly recommend putting your users first when deciding on ad location. Think about their behavior on different pages, and what will be most useful and visible to them. You'll find that the most optimal ad position isn't always what you expect on certain pages.

For example, on pages where users are typically focused on reading an article, ads placed directly below the end of the editorial content tend to perform very well. It's almost as if users finish reading and ask themselves, "What can I do next?" Precisely targeted ads can answer that question for them.

Google has also shown an adsense heatmap (see Figure below) where the "hot" spots for ads are indicated in orange and yellow for optimising your adsense placements

Personally, I have applied some of this ad placement techniques to my various blogs and found that ad placement really does affect one's earnings. Currently, I try my best to include an ad on top of my posting, below my posting and to the right hand side of my posting. I also add link words at the top of my posting. Before I read about ad placement, I earned close to nothing from clicks. After re-arranging my layout for adsense, I noticed a significant increase in the number of clicks and earnings my blogs were generating.

A quick analysis of these blogs and their adsense earnings over the months teaches meone key lesson which I would like to share:

Key Lesson: It is really does not matter how much effort you put into your blog in terms of time. I have spent much time doing up this blog (in terms of layout and stuff) but it still has not earned any adsense revenue for me. On the other hand, some of the blogs which I created have only 7 posts but are already churning in the cash!

5 Simple Steps to Make Money From Adsense

As the title of this post suggests, I will go through 5 simple steps to Making Money from Adsense at zero cost. Hopefully, this will help you start the creation of your own Adsense Empire that will start to generate lots of passive income for you!

A quick run through these five simple steps first.

Step 1: Create a Blog/Website

A website can be easily created nowadays with free tools provided by Blogger, Wordpress or LiveJournal. For example, this current Make Money Online website is hosted by Blogger for free. To create your website or blogs, you just need to register a few details and you will get a unique url (http://nameofyourwebsite.blogspot.com) This is your first website!

Step 2: Sign Up for Adsense

You will need an account with google adsense. Blogger basically is owned by google so the tools allow you to simply add adsense into your blogs.

Step 3: Place Adsense Ads on Your Blog

Add the adsense code into your blog or website and there you have it! An up and running website ready to earn money from adsense.

Step 4: Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Amongst all these components, the most crucial and important of all is traffic, traffic, traffic. Without sufficient traffic being directed to your website, it does not matter how beautiful and user-friendly your website is or how good the content is. A website without any traffic is useless in earning any money online. To make money from advertisers like Adsense, one's website would need a large number of visitors to provide the necessary page impressions and clicks on the advertisements for you to earn enough money.

Step 5: Start with Step 1 again.

You have done all the required steps but somehow you are still not making any money? Maybe it's because the keywords that you have chosen aren't being searched for in the search engines. Maybe you just require more page impressions. Maybe you require another blog (think of it as another shop front). What ever the case, it would be useful to relook at all the steps again to identify where you have went wrong and try all over again. Practice makes perfect. Now who said blogging is easy money?

Introduction to Google's Adsense

AdSense is an advertisement serving program run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google is also currently beta-testing a cost-per-action based service.

Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the advertisements are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the advertisements is often relevant to the website.

Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. If the advertisements are included on a website that has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, AdSense will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes, also known as public service announcements (PSAs). (The Mediabot is different from the Googlebot, which maintains Google's search index.)

Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and salespeople. To fill a website with advertisements that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the websites' pages. Websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.

Some webmasters invest significant effort into maximizing their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:^{[citation needed]}

1. They use a wide range of traffic-generating techniques, including but not limited to online advertising.
2. They build valuable content on their websites that attracts AdSense advertisements, which pay out the most when they are clicked.
3. They use copy on their websites that encourages visitors to click on advertisements. Note that Google prohibits webmasters from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. The phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".^{[citation needed]}

The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program, which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction. AdSense commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (i.e., a bid not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.

How Adsense Works:

• The webmaster inserts the AdSense JavaScript code into a webpage.
• Each time this page is visited, the JavaScript code creates an IFrame with a src attribute set to the page's URL.
• For contextual advertisements, Google's servers use a cache of the page to determine a set of high-value keywords. If keywords have been cached already, advertisements are served for those keywords based on the AdWords bidding system. (More details are described in the AdSense patent.)
• For site-targeted advertisements, the advertiser chooses the page(s) on which to display advertisements, and pays based on cost per mille (CPM), or the price advertisers choose to pay for every thousand advertisements displayed.^{[9] [10]}
• For referrals, Google adds money to the advertiser's account when visitors either download the referred software or subscribe to the referred service.^[11] The referral program will be retired in August 2008.^[12]
• Search advertisements are added to the list of results after the visitor performs a search.
• Because the JavaScript is sent to the Web browser when the page is requested, it is possible for other website owners to copy the JavaScript code into their own webpages. To protect against this type of fraud, AdSense customers can specify the pages on which advertisements should be shown. AdSense then ignores clicks from pages other than those specified.

About Me

I am your typical guy in his mid-twenties earning a comfortable 4 figure salary from a 8 to 5 job. In early 2008, I started blogging and out of curiosity, explored the use of Adsense on some of my blogs to see if it was really possible to earn money online as touted by some websites which I felt were scams. "Surely there was no such thing as making easy money online" I thought to myself.

In spite of this, I installed Adsense to some of my blogs and waited. Days passed and nothing happened. Weeks passed and still nothing happened.

Then one day, I checked my Adsense account and to my very surprise, I had made my first cent in Adsense! It was only $0.01 but somehow the feeling of having actually earned some money online was both intriguing (in the sense that I least expected it) and satisfying (that $0.01 earned over the few months was my hardest earned income in my entire life!). What was more amazing was the fact that I had not blogged for a one to two months when I actually earned that money, so you can say that I was surprised that there were people actually reading my blogs.

Over the next few months, I intesified my efforts in blogging. I researched various techniques and started to blog more regularly.

Lo and behold, my Adsense Earnings started to climb steadily too!

This is a breakdown of my report for the amount that I have earned from Adsense since June 2008:

Jun 08= $0.40
Jul 08 = $0.37
Aug 08 = $4.51

I had manged to increased my passive income from Adsense by nearly 10 times within 1 month!

And with Sept 08 coming to a close as I am writing this entry, my earnings for Sept 08 is officially at $8.29 (and it is only 23rd of September!)

If this trend continues, and I manage to double my adsense earnings every month, I will be on my road to early retirement and financial freedom very soon!

The greatest joy I will get of course is from sharing with you the reader on how a guy with absolutely no know-how about blogging actually made money from his blogs. I hope you will find this site useful and will bookmark it for future reference as I add more content to it.
